Adopting a friend

So, you want a dog, and not just any dog - you want a Great Pyrenees! You've researched the breed (beyond the pretty face), and you've decided this noble, gentle giant is right for you. That big, fluffy, white, fur ball with a mind of its own is just what you need to bark at your neighbors; to walk you around the neighborhood, rec-trail or park; to take you to the vet, the groomers, or the local dog club; to help you lounge around your home; to help decide which food, or toy, tastes best; and, most importantly, which clothes will look better white and furry? Then we can help you! Check the Dogs section About the Breed to learn more about Great Pyrenees. If you are confident that you are a Pyr person, we invite you to take a look at our available dogs and fill out an adoption application.

GPRW will review your application, check references and current pet veterinary records, then contact you for an interview. We keep applications on file until we have a dog that matches your needs, we will set up a visit at the dog’s foster home for your entire family to meet and greet each other. Having this meeting at the foster home allows you to see the dog in a setting where they are most at ease.

Prior to placement, a GPRW volunteer will visit your home. This home visit is a great opportunity for you to discuss the possibility of bringing a Pyr into your home. Ask questions! We love them.

Ownership of the Pyr transfers when the adoption contract is signed, adoption fee is made, and the dog is placed in its new home.

GPRW volunteers are more than happy to help you and your new dog settle in together. At the same time, GPRW recognizes that, despite everyone’s good intentions, some placements are not successful. In such a case, the dog must be returned to GPRW.
